What is Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health?
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is an essential community health service with dedicated staff who focus on promoting and protecting the health of our community. We offer programs that: - promote healthy infant and child development, responsive parenting, positive mental, reproductive, sexual and dental health
- prevent cancer, heart disease, substance abuse, tobacco use and injuries
- protect our communities from communicable and infectious disease, and environmental hazards such as contaminated food and water.

Public Health is an accredited, non-profit agency, funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and local governments including the Counties of Wellington and Dufferin and the City of Guelph. Separate grants are often received for one-time funding of specific projects. We are governed by an autonomous Board of Health. The Medical Officer of Health and four Directors oversee the Public Health's services and provide direction to over 200 full and part-time staff members. We serve a population of approximately 272,000 in an area of 4,200 square kilometres. This incorporates 16 municipalities. We are located just west of the Greater Toronto Area, in the south central part of Ontario. This area has a balance of agriculture, commerce, industry and education, making it a most desirable place to live, work and locate business. There are five Public Health office locations throughout Wellington and Dufferin Counties. We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities as set out in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Our role/service mandate is described in the Ontario Ministry of Health Mandatory Program Guidelines. The Public Health brochure details some of the local programs and services which are adapted to meet community needs. Our multi-disciplinary team of health professionals takes pride in their roles as leaders and consultants in health promotion and disease prevention.
