Breastfeeding clinic on the move

The Community Breastfeeding Clinic at Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) moves to a new home June 2010. HHCC and WDG Public Health are currently looking for a suitable location for the service.

HHCC Program Director, Ursula Manuel says, "The move is a result of changes at the hospital, but breastfeeding support to new mothers will continue. Headwaters will still provide lactation support to patients in hospital from both our certified Lactation Consultant and our Obstetrical staff. As well, we will continue to work with Public Health to provide breastfeeding counseling, education and care plans for breastfeeding families  in our community."

The drop-in community clinic offers professional and peer support for breastfeeding mothers with babies under 12 weeks of age.  WDG Public Health Manager, Dawna  Monk Vanwyck  adds, "For almost 20 years, families in Dufferin have depended on our breastfeeding clinics. Our new site will offer this valuable service at an accessible, community facility."

Until a new location is confirmed, clinic days and hours at HHCC remain the same- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-3:30 p.m. There are no changes in the Shelburne clinic. A drop-in breastfeeding clinic runs Wednesdays, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Mel Lloyd Centre.  For more information call 1-800-265-7293.
