If you're a client or a worker in a beauty or body art establishment, you may be exposing yourself to infections such as HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.   To help prevent the spread of infections, public health inspectors inspect

• beauty salons
• barber shops
• tanning salons
• nail salons
• ear piercing, tattoo and body piercing establishments

Inspectors visit these places at least one time each year to ensure that workers are following required infection-control practices.
